While completely de-messing up a friends computer I had the same
problem. Check for the hidden files drivspace.bin, msdos.sys, and io.sys
in your root directory. I they are not there then you will probably have
to re-install dos. Logging onto the floppy drive you booted from, then
typing sys c: may also work, but this is a bit of a long shot.
If this doesn't and reinstalling dos in not an option, then you will have
to keep booting off the floppy. To allow you to do this without having to re-insert
the boot disk every five minutes, add the following line to the end of your config.sys.
SHELL=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM C:\DOS\ /E:512 /P
Hope you find a solution :-).
