ADSL contention ratios are always claimed to be ADSL's downfall, but is it really true?? People claim that a 512k connection with a 50:1 contention ratio, when all users are on, can drop the connection speed to 10kbit/sec per user... What a load of tosh! Upto the exchange, everyone has a 512k pipe. On a 50:1 connection, *upto* 50 poeple, will share a larger fiber connection up to their ISP. I don't know what the Fiber connection speed is, but if I was to say that it was 5mbit/s, then shared over the maximum of 50 people for the contention ratio, would equal an average of 100kbit/s each, only when all (potential) 50 users are on at the same time... Would any care to (and I'm sure they will) coment on this matter... -- Sam Walden sam@c2000.com ---------------------------------------------
