Apache & modem dialing..

Anybody (a) an expert at getting RH to perform dial-on-demand
using a modem (for any routable network requests), and (b) has
intimate knowledge of httpd.conf for apache?

The former: the HOW-TOs get me so far, but then I'm stuck.

The latter: the documentation gives pointers for certain options,
but doesn't explain why some options or settings are required.

I need to pick someone's brains over this one.

I don't know about 'expert' and 'intimate knowledge', but I'll give it a
go. I have a Diald based dial-on-demand solution using RH6.2 and an Apache
local web server.

Feel free to mail me and I'll do what I can.

You may as well just post the questions here. There are people that have
solutions that work, and read the newsgroup.

I have a dial on demand solution just using the newer model pppd + kernel
2.2, since it seemed easier than diald. Not as flexible though.

I've set up a couple of Apache servers in my time too.

Ah - glad about that one. I've had no success in other ngs.

Can you post the steps you went through? I've managed to get a
modem to dial and authenticate, but not bind an IP address to it
(fudged a chapscript to do it). I'm after the "bind an IP" bit, then
perform the dial-on-demand when receiving a network request
(forwarding a nslookup, traceroute, ping etc)

What version? [1] I'm struggling with setting up individual script
areas for virtual sites. If I post my httpd.conf file here (well.. the
appropriate chunks), would you mind pointing out the errors?

[1] apparently 1.3.9 merged srm.conf and access.conf into
httpd.conf - but for some reason config settings from the others
are still picked up.
