You should be doing this in d.s (about the connections) and dist (about 
what the log means)

nntp[3] is demon in this case (it increments)

this suggests something else on your system or a system very close by if 
you are in a family unit is already using your 3 allowed connections to 
news.dcu / highwinds.

There *was* a problem with this a while ago but I haven't seen it for 
some time and I expect I and other people would have commented in d.s if 
it was a general problem.  TP should only be making one connection.

So: what other s/w are you running that is connecting to news.dcu?

Answer that and your problem is easily solved.

You haven't assigned any newsgroups to the server in question
this is a dist explanation issue (if you look at Configure / Newsgroups 
you can see which server TP is expecting to get articles from).
