Now, residents in the neighborhood have a different fear - that friends of
the attack victim will try to burn down Mr. Tuck's house in retaliation.
Someone has been throwing eggs at the house already, and cars have been
pulling up to the house and then speeding off.

Some nearby parents don't let their kids take the bus anymore, or walk
alone to the bus stop. Nobody's seen Mr. Tuck's younger brother,
reportedly about 10 years old, since the incident. His mother has stopped
answering her door. 

Mr. Turner's parents, who live in a duplex they share with his sister and
her children, have vacated their house, said the family friend. 

"It's nerve-racking not knowing who's going to show up," said Kenda Brown,
who lives across the street from Mr. Tuck. "It's made me wonder if they're
[SPICS] going to retaliate against the family. I mean, we live right
here."

Attorney General Al Gonzales on Friday and asked that the Justice
Department review the attack.

Local officials said they don't believe racism motivated the attack and
noted that the partygoers were smoking marijuana and abusing the
prescription antidepressant Xanax.

"We have not alleged anyone had a racial motivation," Lt. Denholm said.
"We said there were comments that were made when he was getting stomped.
The media threw the 'hate crime' out there."
