The cost of produce picked by immigrant labor is higher by far than just their wages. The only real beneficiaries of the low labor costs are the farmers. Us taxpayers pay for all the infrastructure these people use, which includes everythiong from the roads they drive on (without insurance, typically) to the "free" health care they receive in our emergency rooms, and schooling for their kids, and, and, and............ In the 1950s we started paying our manual labor to stay home and breed little criminals, and the labor had to be gotten somewhere. Think how rich we were then. We could afford to pay our guys not to take "undignified" work, and, at the same time, import people to replace them. If you have a Mexican cleaning your mother's home, you should have them tested for things like TB. It's a disease we all but made extinct in our country until the borders were opened to the unwashed. Now we are fighting it all over again.
