Beef?? What beef??
Vote with your $$ and either quit eating the stuff or reduce your
consumption (we got to that after driving by a "feed lot" near
Amarillo).
It is always difficult to hold others accountable this way, especially
in a system that is set up for business. Business has the bucks, the
cuts from the feds, the ability to bamboozle with ads - I mean what is a
better thirst quencher for a body, a glass of water (sun tea, lemonade
with a real lemon squeeze...) or a Coke?
Most consumers are caught by their own habits which are hard to identify
and harder yet to change. This is the invisible net that ties us as the
slaves to the system. Unbridled capitalism is like taking a swim in
shark infested waters.
It might be worth to pick up a copy of "Freedom at Midnight" the story
of Mahatma Gandhi and his views on how to deal with oppression. Just
because we sing that we live in the land of the free - what does that
REALLY mean when "industry" shackles you.
It's got a nice ring "Industry", as in industrious; or "Developer" as in
nurturing and growth.... In fact these terms describe crass ignorance
and greed - it's Disneyland out there! So it behooves us to examine our
own values and to adjust these. That's really all we CAN do. As
Voltaire's Pangloss has it in the end "cultivate your own garden",
literally and figuratively.
Americans are more in debt than ever, the rate of personal bankruptcies
is skyrocketing (and not just by people playing the game...), congress
is bought by special interest, the AFL-CIO cronies wont stand for
anything beyond their self interest .... so what can you and I do?
Withhold (passive resistance), don't play the game more than one has to
and, I'd say, get ready.
This is the oldest republic and it is failing the people. Ever changing
laws from the new priesthood called "Justice and law and order" have
replaced the simplicity of the golden rule. If you have the
inclination, go watch "The devil's Advocate" rather than the "Titanic"
and you'll hear Al Pacino's rendition on why we are on that sinking
boat. It comes down to choices and how/why we make them. Hell is here
where we pay AS we go. Something is bound to happen, some small thing
that will put the entire system at risk (remember the Evil Empire and
Gorbachev).
Too many citizens are becoming too aware, asking the "wrong" questions,
are fed up being just an other production unit to be manipulated by
bottom line thinkers. It hasn't taken shape - yet, but when it does,
this is not going to be fun.
I went to the town of Bedford and asked them to mandate two things into
their building code: toilets that flush with one gallon of water instead
of five and solar panels that would heat the water - got a big ho'hum
and a notice that we can't wash cars due to water shortage. Later they
upped the water rates (negative control mechanisme) and TU gets bucks
for what could be virtually free for most of the year. So there!
I went ahead and did my own installing.
Anyhoo, that's what I do.
