Racing fan wounded in TMS parking lot

 FORT WORTH � Imagine sitting in your RV at the Texas Motor Speedway
this weekend and getting struck by a bullet.

That's what happened to 62-year-old Jill King when a .50 caliber shell
pierced the wall of her mobile home and struck her in the arm.

Police said the bullet appears to have been a stray, but investigators
and TMS officials certainly don't want it to happen again.

Mell Moss, the victim's husband, said the round came through the roof
of the RV and went through King's arm, shattering the bone. The bullet
then lodged in a wall of the RV.

"I want the person found that fired that weapon, whether it be a
hunter, a target shooter, or somebody else doing something
intentional," Moss said. "That person needs to be found � especially a
person with a .50 caliber weapon that apparently doesn't know how to
use it."

Large caliber weapons like this are legal in the U.S.

Large caliber weapons are legal in the U.S., but are controversial
because of their enormous range and firepower.

While such guns are generally associated with the military, a gun
dealer told News 8 that .50 caliber weapons are selling out right now
for a couple of reasons:

� They can be smuggled across the border to Mexico and used to fuel
the violent drug wars there.

� Some gun buyers are speculating that the value of .50 caliber
weapons will increase if they are eventually banned.

Call Fort Worth police if you have any information about the person
responsible for this incident. Moss said he's offering a $3,000
reward.
