I think that was all central office > SNAFU, and that the actual cabling process went (within limits) acceptable. That's right - we had no problems with the copper aspect of the new wiring - that went in w/no problems, other than a couple of crossed pairs that got straightened out within half a day or so. All the metal connections are brand new, so performance is great. The real hassle was with B.A.'s programming group - they broke our hunt group into two halves, set up so that when calls rolled over from group 1 to group 2, we got hit with a 10-cent message unit for every call (ouch). It took 2 months to get the programming issues straightened out, but they're OK now ... on the big hunt group. They've messed up our tiny voice line hunt group 4 times in 4 different ways during the same period, causing us to miss calls & generally making us crazy. From where I sit, the real issue with B.A. isn't the behavior of fiber vs. copper - it's the fact that they've downsized staff so many times since taking over C&P that the folks who are left are stretched too thin to perform competently as a team, and commitment dates for service changes & installations are a joke - they usually miss the dates by 2-6 weeks. It took us 3 weeks just to get Caller-ID added to our voice lines after we placed the orders. If we ran our business they way they did we'd be out of business in short order ... of course, we're not a monopoly ... /Paul Heller ph@his.com
