Very well put Craig! I find it quite interesting that the 28.8K V.34
specification requires 3200hz of available bandwidth. Now if you look
at the Bell specs for a "normal" voice telephone line, they are supposed
to provide you with a frequency response of 300-3000hz which only equals
2700hz of available bandwidth. Now in the overall scope of things, if
a normal line is 2700hz, and to run a true V.34 you need 3200hz, something
isn't going to work. If memory serves me correct, you need 3000hz to get
26.4K, and 2700hz to get 24K, so in reality they should at least state
that a normal connect speed is 24K and not 28.8K.

On another note, I have no idea as to what is needed to get the new 33.6K
connect speeds, and though my modems support 33.6K, I have never seen
such a connect. Who knows how much bandwidth is needed for this, but
it more than most normal people will ever see. Maybe I should design
and release a 48K modem, and just state that you need 9000hz of bandwidth
to get such a connection. Just think of all the people bitching they
can't get 48K from all the ISP's... :-)
