MACWARE REVIEWS.......

SKYFIGHTER.... For all the would-be fighter pilots among us, SkyFighter is an
easy to learn aerial combat simulator that you can play over a LAN or over the
Internet. Two features make this program outstanding: the ability to view
your own plane from different perspectives as it maneuvers above the field
of battle... and the opportunity to apply your own paint scheme to either
the
P-51 Mustang or the Me-109.

SNAPSHOTS........

Touch 3D -- This is a demo program that won't let you save, export or
print, but it has the niftiest set of demo movies that show you how to use
the program to create 3D polygon models. Another neat feature is the
programs "unfold" which lets you print out an unfolded version your model
which you can cut out and paste or tape together to see the model in "real"
space.

SystemNOTE -- A control panel utility that lets you create reminder notes
when you either startup or shutdown you Mac.

The HAJJ -- A hypercard stack that presumably lets students participate in an
interactive version of the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. I found a couple
problems with the program that prevented me from using it.

NetStripper -- If you exchange DOS or UNIX text files between your Mac,
you'll appreciate NetStrippers ability to reformat carriage returns, a
constant source of aggravation, especially if you're creating HTML docs in
DOS's Notepad program.

Let's Talk 2.0 -- This program is intended for school children to teach
them how to write dialog. You type your text into a box on the program and
then select one of Mac's voices to speak it. I found that it only works
with certain voices and not all.

Putting Apple's Problems Into Perspective.

Dr. Alex Yu of Arizona State University in Tempe offers a little perspective
regarding Apple's current woes. He points out that several other
well-recognized firms lost as much and more than Apple during the same
quarter, including Kodak, but no one in the press is predicting Kodak's
demise.

Be Systems Switches to Software Development Only.

Just reported, Be has announced that it is getting out of the hardware business
to concentrate on developing it's Be O/S operating system which they have now
ported to the PowerPC and apparently were demonstrating at MacWorld Expo.
I posted a copy of their letter in MacForum, if you'd like to read it.
According to a couple writers in the Mac-L mailing list, the Be O/S is very
impressive, though it is limited in what it can do at this time on the Mac
platform.
