Description of FAS2.09 (from Uwe Doering, gemini@geminix.in-berlin.de):

FAS 2.09 is a async driver for 286/386 UNIX/Xenix systems.

Actually, this should have been the patch #1 for FAS 2.08, but as
I looked at the size of the context diffs, I decided to make it a
full-blown new release.

This is mainly a maintenance release, that is, several bug fixes,
but only a few new features. The highlight should be SysVr4 support
(with the help of the SysVr3 compatibility kernel modules).

Anyway, please switch to this new release, even if you haven't
noticed any bugs in the past. Believe me, they are there. And
one bug even could cause a kernel panic. :-(

And please pass a copy of this new release to everyone who currently
uses FAS 2.08 (or older) and doesn't have access to the Netnews.

Here is an excerpt from the README file:

     This is an async driver for 286/386 based unix systems that adds
     several features that are not supported by vendors drivers.
     It supports

        1.  the NS16550A and i82510 UART chips in full FIFO mode.
        2.  modem sharing for input and output.
        3.  shared interrupts.
        4.  multiplexed UART registers (HUB-6 card etc.).
        5.  full and half duplex hardware flow control.
        6.  VP/ix, the ISC DOS emulator.


     FAS was successfully tested under the following operating systems:

     Microport UNIX SYSV 3.0
     ISC 386/ix 2.0.2 & 2.2
     ESIX Rev. C & D
     Bell Tech/Intel UNIX 3.2
     SCO UNIX 386
     SCO XENIX 386 2.3.2
     SCO XENIX 286 2.3.2
     AT&T UNIX 3.2 V 2.1
     SysVr4 UNIX 386 V 2.0 (with tty compatibility drivers)
