In dnet.graphik you write: >Does anybody know which kind of picture format GIF is ? >Can anybody around tell me some information about this standard ? GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format or some such. It was invented by Compu$erve in order to provide a reasonably machine-independent standard for storing compressed graphic images. GIF can handle just about any reasonable picture size (64K by 64K is provided for) and supports 2,4,16,32,64,128, and 256 color images (more than one of which can be stored for the same picture, but hardly anybody uses that feature) -- supporting more than 256 colors is possible but not very practical. I can send you some tech info (format description, a tutorial that somebody wrote, C sources for a decoder written on a Sun under X) if you want.
