(Eine beschraenkte Zahl von Kopien des Vortrags "An object-oriented framework for the integration of interactive animation techniques" by Zeleznik, Conner et al. (10 authors), in the SIGGRAPH'91 proceedings (Computer Graphics Vol. 25, no. 4, pp. 105-112) koennen von mir angefordert werden) (wisskirchen@f3.gmd.dbp.de oder wissk@gmdzi.gmd.de). **** Edwin Blake's comments *** From Edwin: Well SIGGRAPH and Las Vegas are behind us and I thought it might be interesting to for those people who could not go (and those who could not go to everything) to have a discussion of advances on the oo-graphics front at SIGGRAPH. It seemed to me that object-oriented graphics has arrived and if it was not apparent earlier it is now clearly the mainstream approach to computer graphics. Evidence? Well, Fred Brooks came to our tutorial on the subject ... There was also a panel discussion on the topic at which nothing controversial was said: consensus ?! More significantly, Andries (Dutch version of the name) van Dam, who got the Coons award this year, was pushing object-oriented design for his baby: a new graphics standard to be developed outside the national and international standards bodies. You can get a flavour of the approach they are advocating by looking at the paper "An object-oriented framework for the integration of interactive animation techniques" by Zeleznik, Conner et al. (10 authors), in the SIGGRAPH'91 proceedings (Computer Graphics Vol. 25, no. 4, pp. 105-112). A manuscript of Steve Cunningham's book (a collection of papers on object oriented graphics by various authors) was on view at the Wiley stand: it should be out early next year. That makes it the third book on the topic. Other impressions of SIGGRAPH? Is it time to move on to new pastures and leave object-oriented graphics to the developers?
