GEOMAGNETIC STORM ALERT
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
Issued: 00:00 UT, 29 April
Minor Geomagnetic Storm Alert
-------------
ATTENTION:
A Minor Geomagnetic Storm Alert has been issued. Middle latitude
geomagnetic activity has surpassed minor storm level thresholds over many
areas. A minor to major geomagnetic storm level fluctuation is currently in
progress locally. The fluctuations have not been spectrally intense,
although quite noticable degradations in middle and high latitude HF
propagation have been noticed over the past hour.
Geomagnetic activity could reach major storm levels over the high
latitude regions. Geomagnetic conditions should remain generally unsettled
to active into early May. Some improvements are possible on 01 May.
Auroral activity will be moderate to high over the high latitude
regions, particularly areas within or near the auroral zone. However, the
full phase of the moon will make observing auroral activity quite difficult.
HF propagation conditions are expected to remain generally fair to good
during the daylight hours, dropping to fair to poor (particularly over the
higher latitudes) during the evening hours, for the next 24 hours. Periods
of strong fading as well as moderate levels of noise and distortion are
possible over the middle and high latitude paths.
There is a continuing possibility for favorable VHF auroral backscatter
conditions for the central to northern middle latitudes (or central to
southern middle latitudes for the Southern Hemisphere) during local evening
and early morning hours. Higher latitudes should experience more favorable
conditions for VHF auroral backscatter communications.
This alert will remain in effect for the UT day of 29 April. An update
will be posted by 24:00 UT on 29 April, or sooner if conditions change
radically.
** End of Alert **
