Does anyone have code or algorithms for computing the CRC on an AX.25
frame?

Since Brian Kantor originated rfc1226 (describing how to encapsulate
AX.25 frames into IP packets), I thought it would be nice if there was
some software around to implement it. To that end, I'm coding away...
but I have no idea how to do the CRC required by the standard.

Also, if anyone else is busy working on implementations around this rfc,
please let me (and the group) know -- maybe we can learn from each other.
I will be posting a brief description of what I have to date sometime this
week (I hope).

We ordered two of these radios at Dayton and paid for them. Have
heard nothing since. I dropped a note to their internet address but
no answer. Has anyone gotten the radios from them?

Gerard,

Thanks for the response - It seems that your version may be the one
of choice now that Kelvin is no longer supporting his.

It is good to hear that your base IS the latest KA9Q code and that
you support all of Kelvin's feature plus a few of your own.

I think the naming convention for your code is going to become
confusing. I am naming your latest release gg053116.exe (or .zip
for source) on my system. This is the convention that Kelvin adopted
and it worked quite well. Your initials, followed by a 4 digit mmdd
of the KA9Q release, followed by a 2 digit version for your release.
Do you think you could go with something like this??

This shows at a glance the KA9Q base, and your release of it.

I should have your latest in place on a number of systems and with
others in the group picking it up, about 10-15 should be using it by
weeks end.

 Thanks for your support.

Doug

Subject: NOS net/rom reference

I got NOS (G1EMM 11/30/90) set up last night. Spiffy, especially
compared to my old 890421 NET. The manual seems to lack a section on
setting up the net/rom system. I'd like to know if a reference exists
and where I can find it if it does.

I'll look on Simtel, but if anyone can direct me, I'd be much obliged.

thanks

Subject: mfj-2400 baud modem

Hello Fellow IP'ers

I have just started to get active again on tcp-ip in milwaukee after
being off packet for a year, but thats another story.

Anyhow, here is the situation...

A couple of us have bought mfj-2400 modems and have tryed using them on ip
on a quiet 220 channel. Since tcp-ip has a bit more overhead, we thought
that this would be a simple way to get a bit more threw-put compared to 1200b.

We have NOT been able to duplicated file transfer rates with the 2400b
modem, compared to a tapr tnc2 with 1.1.7b firmware with the tapr dcd
piggyback mod. Also note that our hbaud rate is set to 4800 baud.

I was wondering if anybody out there in netland has had any experiance
with making this modem play. At this point in time, we cannot duplicate
transfer performance of the tapr 1200 baud modem.

Here is a brief rundown of our situation. We are both using kenwood 321a
radios, tnc2's and mfj 2400 modems. After a couple days of playing, we have
optimised 1200 baud response to get a 90% -> 95% ping return and file transfer
rate of about 200k in 1 hour.

The 2400 baud response so far has been a *doubling* of TXD & Tail delays with
a *halfing* of the ping response & file threw-put.

What are we doing wrong? Is there a problem with "tone twist" or group delay
of the transmitter audio channel that's causing the problem? Is there some
practical or informed experiance on this problem?

Thank you,

Subject: WNOS by db3fl

Hello buddies,
My name is Ramon and I'm entering TCP-GROUP via hb9zz in ampr-net
I'm quite unknown with the exact habits in this newsgroup, so if
I violate one of the unwritten rules, please excuse me...

DB3FL, Michael, has made some additions to Phil's NOS, based on
WAMPES, and on G1EMM and PA0GRI versions.
He made a quite good workable user-interface to it, having a little
clock on the screen and a status-line in the top, showing the active
sessions and -by putting them at a different background or making them
flash- you can see whether there's some new data arrived at the session
or not.
Furthermore, he added a IP autorouter and a AX25 autorouter to the
software, making possible a EASY connect to any other WNOS station
at the network. I say WNOS, because other releases of NOS do receive
the SYN window, but don't know via which way to answer...
He also added a hop-to-hop acknowledgement for AX25-packets, the same
way it is used in the FlexNet-software, on which a greater part of the
German packet network is running...
If anyone is interested, please send a message, I have sources and a
compiled version, as well as a manual in German. I could try to upload
it to the thumper, but the first moment I have some time will be in about
two weeks... So first I'll wait for some responses... We think it really
works great!!
Any mail please to pa3eug%pa3eug%dl8yq%pi8hrl%hb9zz.ethz.edu@ucsd.edu,
this path should work as it is the same path as this message is send by...

Subject: (G)ateway Funny in G1EMM NOS

Hi All,

Has anyone noticed this oddity with G1EMM (901130 v1.6) ?...

A link-layer connection to my local NET/ROM node GB7UX-2 is
in existance because I've got an IP connection to another
station using NET/ROM. Someone logs into the bbs and types
'g 144 gb7ux-2'. Hey Presto! They *immediately* get the
Connected. signal but nothing they send gets sent to the
node, nor does anything come the other way.

	Suggestions ?

There's also another NET/ROM related strangeness but I've yet to pin
it down completely. More news later.

73.

Mike

The RFC for PPP (sorry, I forget the number, probably in the 1180s)
contains a nice, easy software implementation of the CRC-CCITT (16-bit)
in back.

Had a nice chat with the Gracilis people last night (their nickel, not
mine). The radios are held up awaiting their crystals. I wish more
companies were as responsive.

Thanks to all who sent me notes with info on the company.
