6th European Knowledge Acquisition for Knowledge-Based Systems Workshop

                                EKAW92
                     Heidelberg and Kaiserslautern
                           May 18 - 22, 1992

in cooperation with ECCAI and GI

EKAW92 is concerned with the acquisition of knowledge for
knowledge-based systems. The workshop will be held in two parts: a one
day open meeting in Heidelberg and a three and a half day closed
workshop near Kaiserslautern. The closed workshop will be limited to 40
participants, one author for each paper. An additional allowance of up
to 10 participants is considered for submission to the Sisyphus
investigation (see below).

Papers are invited for consideration on all aspects of knowledge
acquisition for knowledge based systems, including (but not restricted
to):

- Areas of research and development:
  - Elicitation and modeling of expertise - manual techniques
    and support systems.
  - Apprenticeship, explanation-based, and other learning systems;
combination of such systems with other knowledge acquisition
    techniques.
  - Issues in cognition and expertise that affect the knowledge
    acquisition process.
  - Extracting and modeling of knowledge from texts, videos, graphics,
    and other media.
  - Combination of knowledge acquisition techniques.
  - Integration of knowledge acquisition systems with hypermedia,
database management systems, simulators, spreadsheets, and
    standard application software.
  - Management of knowledge acquisition within software projects
    and industrial environments.
  - Knowledge acquisition methodology: roles, skills, teaching,
    and training.
  - Knowledge acquisition techniques in the development of industrial
    knowledge-based systems.

- Sisyphus:
Sisyphus is an international data point gathering project, where
different research groups solve identical sample problems. The
solution of the sample problems will be described according to a
predefined set of dimensions, which is delivered together with the
sample problems in forms of questions. The materials will be
distributed after EKAW91. For more information contact Marc Linster.

Four copies of a full length paper (up to 20 pages) should be sent to
Thomas Wetter before Dec. 13, 1991. Information about acceptance or
rejection will be mailed by Feb.10. Camera ready copies must be returned
before March 13. It is planned to distribute the proceedings at the
beginning of the workshop.
