SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN DESIGN

22-25 JUNE 1992, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA

This international conference series has been established to provide a
forum for the presentation and discussion of the state-of-the-art and
cutting edge research and development results in artificial intelligence
in design. The first conference was held in Edinburgh in June 1991 and
attracted papers and attendees from 21 countries.

Design is becoming a major research topic in engineering and
architecture. It is the key to economic competitiveness and the
fundamental precursor to manufacturing. However, our understanding of
design as a process and our ability to model it are still very limited.
This conference series aims to provide an international forum for
developments in artificial intelligence in design.

Papers are invited on all aspects of artificial intelligence in design.
Papers will be rigorously refereed by an international board and
accepted papers will be published as a book. The conference will be
structured to provide adequate time for both presentation and
discussion.

TOPICS OF PARTICULAR INTEREST INCLUDE:
 -	knowledge-based design systems
 -	knowledge representation for design
 -	representing designs
 -	design process models
 -	constraint processes in design
 -	case-based reasoning in design
 -	machine learning for design
 -	models of creative design
 -	cognitive design models
 -	integrated design environments.

SUBMISSIONS
Five hard copies of full papers (abstracts will not be accepted) are
required by 2 December 1991. The first page should contain the paper
title, author's name, postal address, fax number and email address. The
second page should contain the paper title and abstract without any
author's identification. Papers will be refereed and authors of accepted
papers will be given the opportunity to revise their papers prior to the
final submission. Final versions of accepted papers will need to be
formatted according to the publisher's instructions and should be less
than 20 pages. Authors of accepted papers will be expected to sign a
copyright release form to allow the publication of the proceedings. One
author of each paper is expected to present the paper at the conference.
There will be a reduction in the conference fee for one author of each
accepted paper.

TIMETABLE
   Full papers due-5 copies .......................... 2 December 1991
   Notification of acceptances ....................... 3 February 1992
Revised, formatted papers due .................... 13 March 1992
   Conference ....................................... 22-25 June 1992

PUBLICATION
All accepted papers will be published in the book of proceedings which
will be available at the time of the conference; all paying delegates
will receive one copy free.

VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION
The conference will be held at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.
The local host is the Engineering Design Research Center at Carnegie
Mellon University who have a wide range of projects on artificial
intelligence in design. Accommodation is being reserved at the new,
air-conditioned dormitories on campus and at the University Holiday Inn.
Full details of these will be listed in the conference brochure.
