I'm an alto sax player in search of a band with which to gain some
playing experience. I had taken an 8 year hiatus from the sax until I
started taking lessons this year. I'm *not* looking for an audition,
but an opportunity to sit in, have some fun, and develop my musical ear
and intuition.

My primary interest is playing jazz but I'll play just about anything
for experience with a live band. Anyone interested in playing should
please drop me a line. If I don't find an established group I'll try
to put a group together.

Now for something about me. I started playing the saxophone in 1974,
and continued through high school ('81). In 81 I was 4th chair alto
sax in the NC Northwest District All-State Band. I stopped playing in
college, though I did play one year in the UNC Wind Symphony (82/83)
and one (on bari) in the UNC Jazz Band (84/85). That was my last
serious "gig".

Pointers would also be appreciated. For example does anyone know if
there's an equivalent to the "Heart of Carolina Swing Band" (i.e. a
jazz version of the Durham Community Band) in the Durham area? Such
a thing would be perfect for my situation.

Thanks in advance,
-John
