We am seeking a volunteer guest lecturer to speak to a graduate BME
class in which students specify and build computer applications for
the medical setting.  Many of these projects potentially involve the
placement of small computers in sensitive areas such as operating
rooms and/or interfacing to existing life-critical equipment.

The question has arisen as to what organizations/administrations
regulate computers and computer software in this setting.  Clearly UL
gets involved in certifying electrical safety (Are the rules different
for operating suites?) and FDA in approval of commercial medical
devices.  There are no doubt others.

If you or someone you know has authoritative information to share, and
even better some war stories, and can spare an hour to enlighten the
