Ted,

Before you start totally panicing, get a copy of Norton Utilities.
This lifesaving program has several Disk diagnosis, repair, and
restoration/rescue features on it. My Mac crashed once when I was
copying to my Zip Disk and when I restarted it was declared unreadable.
Norton Utilities fixed it up perfectly, however. It's even worth your
money to go out and actually buy the program, since it *will* come in handy
for emergency crashes and "Unerases," as well as providing regular
backup, defragmenting, and optimizing functions to make and keep your mac
running smoothly.

Good luck!
