We acquired a leaflet about this at the local shopping centre (Cameron
Toll), stuck under the windscreen wiper.
It claims to be "..a highly effective , easy to install fuel saving
device, created through the technology of Magneto Hydro Dynamics (MHD).
It will enhance your engine's performance and reduce exhaust emissions."
Allegedly it works by aligning hydrocarbon molecules in a concentrated
magnetic field. (What is the magnetic moment of petrol (gas) anyway?).
This alignment creates a more effective fuel/air mixture.
Apparently it can increase efficiency by 15 to 20 %. (There must be a
massive conspiracy by fuel processors and sellers to keep this
information from us:-) Just think how much money could be saved if you
got an extra tank of petrol for every six you bought :-). )
Seriously, anyone care to tear this to shreds, in words that a literate
non scientist can understand?

Well, unless my memory of physics lo these many years past fails me, MHD is the theory behind magnetic bottles used in attempts at fusion power. This would imply that to use this ddevice your engine would have to run a _little_ hot. If you know anyone who want's to try it can you persuade them to move to another planet first :-). -- rjc@cogsci.ed.ac.uk _O_ |<

I'd like to announce to the net my new invention of a highly ineffective, bitch to install fuel saving device. How much would you pay? But wait, I'll even throw in the free cow magnet... > >Well, unless my memory of physics lo these many years past fails me, >MHD is the theory behind magnetic bottles used in attempts at fusion Magneto Hydro Dynamics (MHD) deals with producing electricity directly from a fast moving stream of plasma. Most cars I've used get more than enough electricity just from their alternators. (I wish those type of frauds would stop stealing valid terminology to try to sell the (non)product.) of plasma near some -- ==================================================================== Six of one, 110 (base 2) of | Craig Spannring another. | osycs@giac1.oscs.montana.edu ----------------------------------+--------------------------------
