No, if you don't get theinformation across that is not tact, it is lieing or incompitence, depending on intentions. Tact is getting the information across without upsetting people. am> An old example: one of my last company's linux servers stopped am> working while I was at the pub (oopsie!). So was I -- it took am> the rest of that short afternoon to restore the database, and have am> it reupdated since previous backup. The truth? Employee X was am> responsible, and being on new employee probation would have got am> the sack. The lie? I might have suggested it had something to do am> with the electrical storm at the time. Tact saved his job, That is not tact, that is lieing. Tact would have been telling the bigwigs who was responsible in a way which didn't get him char grilled. Either is a viable starategy, but they are different with different consequences. >> Beisdes people with big, fragile egos shouldbe stomped regularly, they >> may grow up. am> Easy to say :-) Easy to do to. Only problem is if it's your boss. If so you are looking for another joba anyway, right? No sane person would work in such a situation. -- Mail me as rjc not spt@cstr.ed.ac.uk _O_ |<
