No, I've been giving the French role in Scottish history some serious
thought and it has been one of promises unfulfilled in time of need.
The Stuarts in particular were constantly let down by the French whose
promises of vast armies to the rescue invariably became odd ships
hovering round the coast to take away yet another aspirant who had
fallen into the trap of believing Gallic promises. And I wonder how
many brogachan (Highland lads) drew in a shuddering breath of horror
as another French-supplied Exocet swooshed past (or in the case of HMS
Sheffield, struck) during the Falklands War.

No, whether supplying Exocets to Argentina or nuclear assistance to
Iraq; collaborating with the Nazis or torturing people I've met in
North Africa, I think it's time we got on the French case. We could
start by giving The Auld Alliance its real name - The Auld A'Lyin'.

In all honesty, this being a bigot is a very difficult position to
maintain as I have so many French and English friends who keep getting
in the way of my pure and crystalline hatred. I don't suppose tax
collectors or politicians are ethnic groups are they? I mean, there
MUST be somebody I can latch onto!
