The Advice Place Welfare Handbook is distributed to all new students at
the University of Edinburgh.  Among the advice contained in it are the
following:

  "Cocaine, (a class A drug) is a white powder derived from the Cocoa
  plant" (page 6)

and on the subject of anorexia nervosa -- I reproduce the content
exactly -- it includes the following gibberish:

  "If the person does not receive treatment, there is a very real danger
  of them dying of malnutrition or infection.  Since the root of a
  desire to control one's eating patterns is what is uncontrollable 
  or confusing in the one's life it is important that counselling is 
  sought as well as medical treatment" (pages 19, 20)

Indeed there is hardly a page of this book which does not contain
laughable errors of usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation.  This must
create the most dreadful first impression on those Freshers who can read
and write good English.
