This afternoon, 26 year old Scotsman Colin McRae and his co-driver Derek
Ringer, in a Subaru Imprezza 555, won the Network Q RAC Intenational
Rally, the last round of the World Rally Championship for 1994, finishing
3 mins 25 secs ahead of the Finnish 1993 champion Juha Kankkunen and his
Welsh co-driver Nicky Grist in their first outing in the new model Toyota
Celica GT4. McRae and Ringer are the first British team to win the RAC
since Roger Clark drove the works Ford Escort in 1976.

Their Subaru teammates Carlos Sainz and Luis Moya ditched on one of the
final Welsh stages, losing around five minutes, and dropping from 2nd
place to hand the 1994 WRC title to French driver Didier Auriol who
finsihed 7th (?) in the older Toyota. Also highly placed were Miki
Biasion, and seasoned campaigners Ari Vatanen and Stig Blomqvist.

The F2 class was won by Finnish driver Timo Makkinen in a Nissan Sunny.

Colin's father Jimmy settled for second place in the historic rally after
minor problems in his Porsche 911.
