Exactly. But consider this. I have and Intel StrongARM processor running
RISC OS via ROM chip and a Pentium as a floating point and for running
multitasking OS's Win95 see:-
http://www.aleph1.co.uk/AcornProd/docs/manuals/PC/index.html
:-))))
The win95 is now obsolete due to Industry standard being forced into Win2K. :-((

However NEW RISC OS apps will run on my nephews RISC OS 3.1 1993 25Mhz
machine and my StrongARM RISC OS4 machine (OK I have only 3.7 just now 4
is in the box)

My WP app will read/write Word Stat Stationary Postscript (any app can be
postscript saved via the PS driver in the priner or using RiScript)

There are alternatives. You can use WINE for Linux and run MS apps as if
you had Windows.
Browser: Mozilla or Opera for PC/mac/Linux is 4X the speed of IE.

Stats 1st stats far better than excel or minitab for stats.
Mathematica
ScionImage for PC www.scioncorp.com or NIH for mac/linux.

Excel is nice though. Probably the best spreadsheet about. Credit where it
is due.

etc etc

Personally I use:-
MessengerPro
Impression Publisher
Artworks (now called corel9)
OvationPro
EasiwriterPro
ANT suite
ARCFAX
Organiser
1st stats
Eureka3
etc etc etc IE none are microsoft but all can read/write files that are
interchangeable.

I use the MS side of my computer for Acrobat reader and for Scion Image
and thats all.

Mind you I dont have shareholders. :-)))))))

Cheers
Bob
