Hi there, The Edinburgh University Compsoc (http://compsoc.tardis.ed.ac.uk) are hosting a talk on Software Patents next Monday (24th Oct). All are welcome to attend. Details below: Date: Monday, 24th Oct Time: 7pm Venue: Appleton Tower, George Square Cost: Free The talk is given by Andres Guadamuz, who is a lecturer at the Law School at Edinburgh University. It should last around 40mins with time for questions and discussion afterwards. Best, Kate President, Compsoc -- Abstract: The defeat of the Software Patent Directive in the Eurpean Parliament has been one of the top legal events in intellectual property this year. However, after the dust has settled the discussion should not cease; the legal loopholes that gave birth to the discussion are still in existance. This talk explores some of the outstanding legal problems, and asks the question of what's next for software patents. Bio: Andres Guadamuz is a Lecturer in E-Commerce at the University of Edinburgh, where he is also a co-Director of the AHRC Research Centre for Studies in Intellectual Property and Technology Law. Andres has both Bachelor and Licenciado degrees from the University of Costa Rica. He's been in the UK since 1998 and obtained an LL.M. in International Business Law at the University of Hull. His research interests are centred on the interaction between technology and the law, the role of intellectual property on developing countries, open source and open access. He's also a keen blogger.
