WRITERS' BLOC PRESENT THE BASTARD SONS OF BURNS An evening of the spoken word with not much poetry and some swearing Following the success of their Halloween event, Writers' Bloc make a return to the Caf Royal Bistro Bar for an evening of offbeat Scottish fiction and supporting entertainment. WHAT? - Live readings of original Scottish fiction. WHO? - The Writers' Bloc spoken-word performance group. WHERE? - Caf Royal Bistro Bar large function suite, 17 West Register Street, Edinburgh EH2 2AA. Enter by west door, not main bar. Follow the signs. WHAT TIME? - 8.00 p.m., Thursday 24 January 2002. HOW MUCH? - 2.00 (1.00 concessions). Join us for an offbeat and irreverent tribute to The Bard. On the night before Burns' Night, get in the spirit and join spoken-word performance group Writers Bloc for a mixter-maxter of original tartan-tainted tales at the function suite of Caf Royal Bistro Bar (near the East End of Princes Street). The members of the group have published stories in magazines and anthologies as diverse as 'Years Best Horror Stories', 'Scottish Book Collector', 'Interzone', 'Isaac Asimovs Science Fiction Magazine', 'Fear', 'Markings', 'Spectrum SF' and 'West Coast Magazine'. The performers have also previously presented their work at Dead by Dawn, Edinburghs Annual Horror Film Festival. This event will be a showcase for all-new contemporary Scottish fiction. Writers appearing include: Andrew C. Ferguson with Boxed Brownie, a story of the kind of little helper your mother wouldn't like; Gavin Inglis with 'From a Previously Unexpected Direction', which warns of a conspiracy of poly bags; Stefan Pearson with An Unrepentant Epicure, where a ham-shank is more than just a euphemism; and Andrew J. Wilson with The Mirror and the Lamp, a tale of genius, madness and all points in between.
