Pues muy sencillo:

public void loadLink(String link) {
   AppletContext ac = getAppletContext();
   java.net.URL url = getCodeBase();
   try {
      ac.showDocument(new java.net.URL(url+link), "_blank");
   }
   catch(java.net.MalformedURLException e) {
      showStatus(url+link+" no encontrado");

}
