Error de gtk

Estoy intentando compilar un programa y me sale el error:

checking for gtk-config... /usr/bin/gtk-config
checking for GTK - version >= 1.2.0... no
*** Could not run GTK test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log
for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GTK was incorrectly
installed
*** or that you have moved GTK since it was installed. In the latter
case, you
*** may want to edit the gtk-config script: /usr/bin/gtk-config
configure: error: GTK not installed  

Lo curioso es que si hago rpm -qa | grep gtk, me dice:
gtk+-1.2.3-1
gtk+10-1.0.6-5
gtk+-devel-1.2.3-1
gtk-engines-0.5-16

Por lo que problema de no tener instalado el paquete en cuesti�n no es.

�Qu� hago mal?�Qu� me falta?
