                         THE 10 WEEKS OF SODOM

Councillor Kyle Rae "wonders about the 'new standards' of what is 
acceptable in the community," according to Toronto Star columnist 
Rosie DiManno (Feb. 26). Rae's query is the result of the arrests of 
several dancers at a gay club called Remington's -- presumably because 
(as part of their "act") they masturbate into the crowd.

Personally, I don't "wonder" why these guys feel it is necessary to 
openly shoot their sperm for the sake of show business because I 
simply don't care. I don't question the fact that there was a 
complaint made (come on, this is Toronto). Indeed, it doesn't faze me 
that these guys got arrested for it -- although the charge of being 
"inmates of a bawdy house" struck me as being kind of odd. Mind you, 
there are some weird laws on the books in this town that can be 
readily pulled out for such circumstances.

What really makes me wonder is the fact that the complaint (one) 
resulted in a 10-week investigation. Ten WEEKS?!? Hello? How long does 
it take to masturbate!!!

Now, many of you are probably thinking "but masturbating in public? 
That's disgusting!!!" Perhaps. Perhaps not -- then again, I get 
disgusted watching people spit in the subway. And I wouldn't 
necessarily call "freeing Willy" in a dark dance club public. In front 
of the Second Cup? That's another story...

But the really disgusting thing about this whole business is the fact 
that our tax dollars were being used to have our boys in blue watch 
the hot action in a closed setting -- for 10 weeks! We have people 
getting shot at in restaurants, women getting sexually assaulted on 
the way to the supermarket and kids running gambling rings in our high 
schools. But where are our fearless defenders of justice? In a bar 
"investigating" the bump, grind and milking.

So much for standards.
