OS-9 Query

I'd like to hear the experiences of anyone who runs Microware's
OS-9 operating system--especially those who, as I am contemplating
doing, run it on one of the 6809 boards which use the IE3 S-100 bus.

(Why this combination, you ask? Well, it is likely that many boards
will be made for said bus, but I find 8080-oid machines disgusting,
and CP/M worse than disgusting. You say that CP/M does for software
what bus standards do for software? Maybe, but I don't see, or don't
plan to see, hardware, and besides, all that software is either
written in an HLL or it isn't. If it is, then it should be portable.
If it isn't, then who needs it? Chances are one will change processors
fairly quickly, which will make investment in machine-dependent software
worthless*. (That minimum set of needed machine-dependent software
excepted--e.g. operating system and compilers, which should be replaced
by programs providing the same or better interface to the newer machine.))

canonical example of this sort of reasoning.
