# Note: I changed newsgroups.

I am sorry to post an article without much information. My best appology is
that I am afraid if this article might be expired. I noticed that it was
posted a week ago, but I read it today because of my absence.

In article <chuteCzG4p1.Ms5@netcom.com> chute@netcom.com (David Chute) writes:

I think there is no public domain OCR software. I have a list of commercial
OCR softwares for Japanese, which I will be able to access tommorrow. Most
of them are for printed Japanese, but few work on handprinted Japanese.

# I think you know that Japanese means a mixture of Chinese Ideographs, two
# sets of Japanese syllabary (Hiragana and Katakana) and some symbols.

There are many hardware OCR's for handprinted and printed Japanese.
Many Japanese researcher believe that Japan is one of the leading countries
in handwritten character recognition. Do you know that handwritten ZIP code
readers were used in early 1970's first in the world? Do you know that more
than 10,000 sets of an OCR model for handwritten numerics were sold ?
