| Yes, there is such a list. However, it's been rather quiet lately. I'm
| working on an XTP implementation myself, so I'd definitely like to see
| more activity on the list!
+---------------

The list is "xtp-relay@pei.com". It was always very quiet, with
occasional bursts of life before & after XTP TAB/RA meetings. But
as you note, the proper way to ask to be added is to send mail to
"xtp-request@pei.com".

+---------------
| Please note that the info in Rob Warnock's message is slightly out of date,
+---------------

Yeah, that message was *old* (2.5 yr). ;-} I no longer even work on that
project...

+---------------
| as the XTP protocol spec is now at revision 3.6.
+---------------

If you include your surface-mailing address in mail to "xtp-request@pei.com",
they'll send you a copy of the XTP 3.6 spec, or you can anonymous FTP it from
"sgi.sgi.com:~ftp/xtp/xtp3.6.ps.Z" (about 400 KB).

+---------------
| Also, there is a book about XTP, authored by Alf Weaver (weaver@virginia.edu)
| and (I believe) some others. I have ordered it but haven't received my copy
| yet...
+---------------

Alf has been one of the more enthusiastic participants at the XTP TAB/RA
meetings, and his group at U. Virginia has done their own implementation,
so his book should be interesting to anyone interested in XTP.

| problems?
+---------------

Protocol Engines, Inc. (PEI) has indeed recently closed its doors. I can't
comment on the possible availability of the PE-1000 chipset technology;
I suspect the matter is probably still being negotiated with PEI's investors.
[I will say more at a future time, if I can find out anything official.]

However, XTP is alive and well. It was never really very interdependent with
the chipset anyway -- there are several independent implementations out there
in the world -- and some time back Larry Green, one of the founders of PEI,
spun off two new companies to deal with XTP by itself.

One is called "The XTP Forum, Inc.", and is a non-profit organization for the
continued evolution of the XTP protocol, possible standardization activities,
etc. This includes the continuation of the XTP TAB (Technical Advisory Board)
and XTP RA (Research Affiliates) activities, more or less unchanged from the
way they were under PEI.

The other company is "XTP Systems, Inc.", which is a for-profit firm engaged
in continued development/licensing of the XTP KRM (Kernel Reference Model)
implementation of XTP (originally developed by PEI & SGI), as well as other
commercial XTP-related activities, I suspect.

Both may be reached at the following address (which may be familiar
to some as the former address of the Santa Barbara office of PEI):

        Larry Green
XTP Forum, Inc. (or XTP Systems, Inc.)
        1900-D State Street
        Santa Barbara, CA 93101

Phone: (805)965-0825 (answered as "XTP Forum")
	FAX: (805)687-2984

(Currently their e-mail is non-functional, but a couple of us are trying
to help get them re-connected...)
