Call me a new member of this newsgroup [I guess] - looks like both experienced and students of the art of Cobol..am I correct? I found this newsgroup mentioned at www.lizst.com and along with alt.cobol and comp.lang.cobol this one feels rather comfortable. I have just taken on the task of learningg cobol after much study of the comp.software.year-2000 group. I think there is quite a job to be done and the work is everywhere one can look, eh? Hope to learn more about each of you and look forward to some good discussions. -Art- Arthur Bouchard Contributing Editor Suite 101 http://www.suite101.com/articles/page.cfm/362

..................
Dear Sir:
I am applying for the COBOL programming position after reading your
comments in a COBOL newsgroup. I have two solid years of COBOL
programming experience. I would like to design, development, and maintain
mainframe (COBOL based) systems. I would also like to get year 2000
experience.
I have just completed my MBA (MIS concentration) and I am currently looking
for an opportunity to: apply the knowledge that I have acquired, continue
to rapidly expand my knowledge base. I have an enormous capacity to work,
study, and learn new things. I have a unique combination of high-level
skills (technical, business, managerial) which may be of interest to you.
Some of these
skills are:
* People - strong belief in the team approach to work plus customer focus
* Business - solid understanding of business processes as a result of my
MBA
* Analysis - strong analytical and quantitative skills due to
undergraduate (physics & math) degree
* Programming - two years real-world experience in COBOL; strong in HTML
- (see web site)
* Teaching - four years of teaching experience; useful for in-house
computer training initiatives
* Writing - superior writing skills (instructor feedback); useful as a
Technical Writer
* Internet - strong information-glut management skills and Web page
development proficiency
* Research - excellent research skills using the Internet and/or other
sources
I am fluent in the use of a wide range of applications software. During my
MBA studies, I worked as a Monitor for one year in the computer lab of my
university's School of Business Administration. Microsoft Office is the
most popular applications program in the Business School. This integrated
software program is used by hundreds of students, on a daily basis. My
job was to assist students who encountered difficulties while using: Word,
Excel, Power Point, and Access.
I am a firm believer in the process of continuous personal education. At
the moment, I am preparing for a computer certification exam - Microsoft
Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) - to acquire more LAN/WAN skills. Also,
I am using online sources (ZDU) to expand my programming competence in a
variety of languages.
Over the years, I have worked very hard to acquire both business and
technical skills. I believe that this interesting combination makes me
more prepared to deal with the complex challenges of the real world. I am
confident that I can make a valuable contribution to the further
development of this organization. I would appreciate the opportunity to
further discuss my qualifications and interests with you. You can reach me
at telephone number (860) 726-9392. My email address is
Johncarryl@Sprintmail.com. My address on the World Wide Web is

Sincerely,
