OK, here it goes.
I am working on this Cobol project in college, to write this
Library Manager program. I guess my partner and I were
overambitious or just lousy programmers, so by uisng the mouse and
a windows like environment we ended up with more than 5000 lines
of code and no more memory in DOS.
Freeing up more DOS memory has solved the problem temporarily,
but with more than 1000 lines to go I think I need something more
drastic; like telling the program to use HIGH MEMORY or run in
protected mode. Through the help menus I have found some possible
solutions but I'm not sure they will work yet. So I'm taking this
precaution by writing to you if things don't turn out the way I
want. I am using Microsoft/Microfocus Cobol.
If you have any information please post a message or preferably
e-mail me at LSTEFCO@ATH.FORTHNET.GR
Thanks a lot,
Constantine

So one told me once that the measure of a good programmer is not how long
his code is but how well he can but complex ideas into short instructions.

Before you look for the easy way out check your code to see if you can
create subroutines.

And one more thing... if you are running out of memory before execution, I
hate to wonder about your runtimes.

Go back and tweak your code. Always code efficiently.

Your friend,
Rob
