Frequently Asked Questions to AIX 3.1 and IBM RS/6000
=====================================================

In the Usenet group comp.unix.aix and the BITNET mailing lists AIX-L and
POWER-L a large number of questions tend to appear over and over again.
The list of 'Frequently Asked Questions' or FAQ for short is a collection of
some (many?, most?) of these questions, and it is posted regularly to
this newsgroup and the mailing lists. The list is edited by Bjorn Engsig
<bengsig@dk.oracle.com>.

The list is concerned with AIX version 3 and the IBM RISC System/6000
computer, and some of the topics covered are:

  - How to make public domain software compile and run.

  - How to do system management

  - What makes AIX different from other unix systems.

  - The AIX 3 C compiler and linker

The list is posted regularly, roughly once a month. If you have any
input, please mail it to Bjorn. Please do not ask for copies of the FAQ
as you can get it by anonymous ftp or mailserver (LISTSERV). Instructions
on how to do it follow.

The files are stored on LISTSERV@TECHNION.BITNET. They can be retrieved
by the "traditional" LISTSERV way and by Anonymous FTP.

To get a file, send a GET filename filetype command to the LISTSERV .
Assume one wants the file AIX-FAQ 07, then:

On BITNET, one can send an interactive message, for example from
a VM/CMS system: TELL LISTSERV AT TECHNION GET AIX-FAQ 07

Or send mail to LISTSERV@TECHNION with no subject and a command
    line: GET AIX-FAQ 07

"outside" BITNET, send mail to LISTSERV@TECHNION.TECHNION.AC.IL
with the command: GET AIX-FAQ 07

If your mailer has trouble reaching that address, try sending the
    command to: LISTSERV%TECHNION@TAUNIVM.TAU.AC.IL

If you can't manage with anything except "bang" addresses, try:
       ...!uunet!pucc.princeton.edu!technion!listserv

Notes:

LISTSERV commands are case insensitive, I used upper case only in order
to emphasize the commands.

To see the list of files, one has to send a different command to the
same addresses as above: INDEX AIX-IL . (I stored the files as a subset
of my low-volume AIX-IL - AIX in Israel list).

To get a file using anonymous ftp, ftp to technion.technion.ac.il
(132.68.1.6), login as anonymous, then cd aix and now you are located at
the AIX-FAQ "area", ready to get files.
