In article <8v23tl$609$0@pita.alt.net> Karl Denninger, karl@FS.Denninger.net writes: >Indeed, they are there for that purpose Barry. >Its all part of the concept of a secret ballot and the right to cast it >without intimidation. "Secret ballot"? You've got to be kidding me. I voted in Chicago and you know what? You weren't allowed to put the ballot in the box yourself, until some guy standing there had LOOKED AT IT. I'm serious, I was there and I watched other people having the same thing happen! There's no privacy violation, nor intimidation, involved in peaceful electioneering or peaceful protest. >(Why is it that Democrats have no problem with this when it applies to >abortion clincs, but when it applies to the polls they bitch to high hell?) *I AM NOT A DEMOCRAT*. Just ask the Democrat functionary who checked my ballot, I'm sure he kept track somehow (my guess is it's coded in how he wrote the serial number on the election receipt) that it was a Nader vote, to make sure that if I had been in a vote selling scheme I'd have been caught out by the seller. (Actually, I'm not a Green either, but I'm much less ashamed to be associated with either Greens OR Libertarians than with the two fascist parties). In the same vein, I should say that I *STRONGLY* believe in the right of anti-abortion picketers to present their VIEWS to women getting abortions. The way I see it, if a woman's resolve to kill her fetus is so shaky that having a picture or a leaflet shown to her is going to change her mind, she should't be getting an abortion! And why is it supposed to be her "right" not to see this? I understand that polling places, LIKE abortion clinics, would have a dim view of people genuinely attempting to barricade access. However, such action is very clearly distinct from ordinary voting or protest practices, especially to anyone trying to get in. -- "Williams said the officer went to the car and found a mouse, which had been injured and was bleeding. The officer took the mouse to an animal hospital for treatment." "6 Arrested in Rodent-Tossing Case", _The San Diego Union-Tribune_, October 5, 2000 "Animal-rights groups have been watching the case and have told police they want stiff punishment meted out, police said."
