Are you mocking my manner of speech, Daniel? <grin> I think you've got a spare o floating in your sentance there, by the way... I'm not sure I concur. Is it a part of the equation? Sure. But do you really think that the teachers in public schools are deliberate slackers? I do training of a lot of these people, and they sure aren't there for the money or adulation. If you're going to blame this on people, try the school administration or upper bureaucracy. And in that sense, private schools are at least as vulnerable to the same problems. Sacrificing educational quality to popularity, knucking under to (unreasonable) parental demands. Some private schools make concessions for the sake of keeping tution dollars - that same fiscal fear you list as a good thing at the faculty level, Daniel. Private schools also have the advantage of a higer level of parental involvement. But kids in private school often have more affluent parents who have more spare time, plus the factor of those parents having a level of concern over the return on their investement. A concern the public school parents don't have. (I think concern over their kids education should be sufficient, but it's a goofy world sometimes...) So if you've got the cash, will your kids get a better education in a private school? Probably. I'm unconvinced this will hold under a voucher system, though - many of what _I_ believe to be the factors that make them better schools _I_ believe won't carry over. Hey, do we need all these newsgroups in this discussion? I am removing alt.politics.elections and fl.news.
