New York is another exception. In Manhattan, above Houston Street (not
pronounced like the name of a certain city in Texas, no matter what
people from out of town say), North-South blocks are 1/20th of a mile.
East-Wst blocks are 2-3 times as long.

In that part of lower Manhattan, may of the blocks are even shorter.
