The iMac is a great computer; in the US some resellers dropped the price to 1.000
$ following rumors there will be faster iMacs very soon. Maybe you should wait a
few weeks to see what happens in Europe???
For iMac & USB issues you should take a look here:

If your printer and your scanner have PC-parallel interfaces ONLY, I'm afraid they
will not qualify.
If the printer has a serial port also, it might work with one of the USB
converters
Same for the scanner: does it have SCSI also? If so, it can work with an USB-SCSI
converter.
But those converters are not cheap!
I think you'd better get rid of the old scanner/printer/PC (maybe somebody is
willing to pay for it?) and get a new USB scanner and printer with your iMac. You
will certainly be amazed to see how easy it is to connect them all together and
make them work immediately.
