I have accomplished the daunting task of installing FreeBSD on my Dell
X300 Laptop and configuring all of the devices to actually work.

I seem to be having some fundamental trouble using a few utilities.
These problems are preventing me from installing programs and learning
on the system.  The easiest way to install programs for me has been to
use the ports system.  I am trying to understand what types of files I
should be download Tar, Bin, etc....  Once these files are downloaded
and decompressed how in the world am I supposed to install them?  Many
of the applications seem like they need me to actually go into the
config files before doing a make / make install.

Generally as a Microsoft Systems Engineer I have been led with the
masses to absolute complacency when it comes to access to source.  I
think this is my fundamental problem when using FreeBSD (UNIX) I just
dont get how to install programs without wizards etc...

Can someone please recommend a good website to learn about installing
and general use of apps on Linux - Unix for KDE?
