The question is no longer who had more votes but rather: Will fraud be allowed to determine the winner, or will fraud be exposed in court with the result being the invalidation of a corrupted hand count. "Our goal," said one lawyer as he patiently lectured his new charges, "is to preserve the Al Gore vote." The volunteers nodded. "It's very, very important that if you see any kind of mark--a scratch, a dent, a pinprick in Al Gore's column--that you challenge." "When someone then asked what they should do if they found a Bush ballot with an indent, the lawyer said: "Keep your lips sealed." http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/decision2000/lat_dems001117.htm By ELIZABETH MEHREN and JEFFREY GETTLEMAN, Times Staff Writers "a scratch, a dent, a pinprick in Al Gore's column" will be considered to show "intent" of the voter to have wanted to punch out the chad and cast a vote for Gore. That "intent" will have one of two effects: a) a ballot that has a clear hole in it in George Bush's column will then be considered as having two holes, and the Bush vote will then be invalidated. One less vote for Bush, one more Bush supporter denied the right to cast a vote as given by the U.S. Constitution. b) a ballot that has no hole punched for any Presidential candidate will then become a vote for Gore. The voter who cast a vote of "dissatisfaction" through a non-vote will have his or her vote cast for Gore without knowledge or consent. The voter's right to not vote for Gore is abridged. Needless to say, the electors who are legally handling the ballots are mostly, if not all, Democrats. Their keen eyesight can spot "a scratch, a dent, a pinprick in Al Gore's column" but will never see such a mark in the column of George Bush. As far as the Republican observers are concerned, the hand is quicker than the eye, but they are allowed to speak the words "object" or "objection."

How so? They're Democratic precincts. Who handles the ballot first?

OK, that's possible, but who handles it first determines perhaps whether the chad detaches. Since they're both working at the same time (?) there would be little ability to watch the other guy and still get the job done. Hence the first nail over the card could be the decisive vote. Make sense?

If you are cynical, this means more trust in the opposition to keep things accurate. If you are idealistic, trust both to want an accurate vote because it matters to be accurate. While many people I know would fall into the latter category, all fall into either one or the other. An after all, hand counts are reliable and fast. Just the other day I did a hand count and repeatedly and reliably came up with two. Every time. :-)

They won't let their left hand know what their right hand is doing.

If you pointed that out, I'd have to refer you to Flori-DUH state law that regulates elections procedures, and she was simply following that law. I'd also have to point out to you that during the swearing in of newly elected State Senators in the Flori-DUH state legislature, she had a part in the process, and received a standing ovation from BOTH sides of the aisle. That tells me that both parties approve of how she's doing her job down there, the national party position and maneuvering not withstanding. BTW, don't forget the pro-Gore Attorney General who tried to block military absentee votes from being counted because they would favor Bush, even after admitting that he had no jurisdiction in ANY legal matter having to do with an election. The first mistake you have made, Dorothy, is assuming that I am a Gore supporter. But, that's to be expected with the "If you ain't with us, you're against us" mentality of the right. Both sides are shite, both sides are corrupt, and both sides are willing to win at all costs. There are no winners in this "election", just one big loser - the American people. KRC

You should learn to read in your pig waller.
It turns out that the ballots protected were marked by the GOP in volition of the
LAW. It was the GOp trying to rig an election that almost lost the veterans their
vote. But, it is nothing to the fact that the Shrubbiest are trying to keep the
Votes of 1,000 of Veterans and disabled vertrans from having their vote counted.
