I read in a K12 newsgroup about someone losing his account with a commercial provider, because of complaints about his postings. He was a person who felt it neccessary to provide all of the relevant history. In his case the complaints concerned requests for funds and advertising. Having read the material, I would consider the abuse minor and consistent with other posters. The big problem is he asked for money in the subject header. I doubt if the sysops looked at the content. The point isn't that he lost access, the point is there was no appeal or independent referee. As Internet becomes an important social service and communications medium, there is a need for protection from arbitrary action. CAC Alberta is concerned about access and privacy concerns on the Internet and would appreciate your opinions. -- CAC Alberta Phone 403-426-3270 Please support #304, 10136-100 Street Fax 403-425-9578 CAC Alberta through Edmonton, Alberta memberships and T5J 0P1 donations. ljp@freenet.edmonton.ab.ca
