Topic: LAN/WAN Connectivity; Turning Theory Into Reality

Speaker: John Dale
          Vice President, Marketing and Engineering
          NetRESOURCE

Location: Room 208, White Hall
          Emory University

Date: Monday, March 1, 1993
Time: 7:30pm

(Our speaker has supplied the following)

This presentation addresses LAN/WAN connectivity from a practical
standpoint, using five case studies to illustrate: 1) Issues to
consider when selecting a LAN/WAN solution; 2) The pros and cons
of available alternatives; 3) The impact of the solution on the
company's operations, and on its bottom line.

The following case histories are addressed:
    1. A county school system that connected PC's on individual
school LAN's to a midrange system at the county headquarters.
    2. An airline reservation consortium that connected LAN-based
and stand-alone PC's at airline locations, travel agencies
and reservation centers to mainframes in Atlanta and Kansas
      City.
    3. A distribution holding company that integrated the networks
of five separate companies into one seamless LAN/WAN system.
    4. An engineering/design firm that created a nationwide LAN/WAN
network to tie together its sites and provide important
customers and vendors with access to design and video-
      conferencing services.
    5. A 2,500-acre destination resort that installed a campus-wide
network to provide better accounting, marketing and stratgic
      planning information.

John Dale began his career at BellSouth in 1973, and has worked
with some of the major networking companies, including AT&T, ADCom,
Codex, and others. Since October 1991, Dale has served as Vice
President for Marketing and Engineering for NetRESOURCE, an
employee-owned data communications company.

Prior to the meeting, there will be an informal, non-structured
"guru" session open to anyone wishing to attend. This will start
around 6:45pm in the meeting room, and we will have one or more
gurus available to discuss whatever topics/problems/questions the
attendees care to bring up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
It is with great pride that we recognize our Corporate Sponsors.
Being aware of the contributions made by the AUUG membership to the
UNIX community, these firms, both large and small, have made a
commitment to provide financial assistance for defraying the
operating expenses of AUUG. We are both pleased and grateful for
their sponsorship, and hope that they will continue to support AUUG
in the days to come.

Next Meeting: Monday, April 5, 1993; 7:30 pm
-------------------------------------------------------------------
For those who need some sustenance before the meeting, you will
find kindred AUUG spirits at "Everybody's Restaurant" near White
Hall. Drop in any time after 5:30pm to sit around and chew the fat
(and pepperoni). This is a chance for folks to get together and
exchange rumors, ideas, assistance, etc.
