Graphical User Interfaces, the toolkits to help build them, and
interface developer tools have become essential parts of the UNIX
  environment.

This talk reviews Sun's latest release of its X11 based windowing
system, OpenWindows Version 3 and the deskset tools that are part
  of the package.

This talk then focuses on the three Sun GUI toolkits, XView,
OLIT, and TNT/NeWS. Each of these toolkits address different
classes of applications and interface design and will be examined
in some detail and then contrasted against each other. The
Developer's Guide, or "Graphical User Interface Design Editor", a
tool useful in developing a user interface will be looked at,
along with its relationship to the three windowing toolkits.

A recap of the Sun X11 graphics packages and performance related
topics such as Direct Graphics Access, PEX, and others will be
  presented.

Win Strickland holds a B.S. and M.S. in Information and Computer
Science from Georgia Tech. He was employed at Georgia Tech for
13 years primarily as a member of the research faculty of the
Information and Computer Science Department. His background
includes extensive work with the UNIX operating system including
kernel level programming, applications programming, and systems
and network administration. Part of his responsibilities while
at Georgia Tech included managing gatech.edu as an Internet e-
mail and USENET news hub. He has been actively involved with
ACM, including working with student chapters and has directed the
National Scholastic Programming Contest. Currently he is working
with Sun Microsystems as a Systems Engineer in the Atlanta
  District Office.

Thanks to the efforts of one of our members, there will be a
showing at 6:45pm of Tape 4 of the AT&T video tape series: "System
Administration for UNIX System V Release 4.0" It will cover Utility
Package Administration (lp spooler, uucp, ...) The viewing time is
thirty minutes, which will leave time for a few questions and
answers.

We are grateful that the Sun Microsystems, Atlanta people have also
paid for this month's mailing of the meeting notices. Their
thoughtfulness and generosity is greatly appreciated.

It is with great pride that we recognize our Corporate Sponsors.
Being aware of the contributions made by the AUUG membership to the
UNIX community, these firms, both large and small, have made a
commitment to provide financial assistance for defraying the
operating expenses of AUUG. We are both pleased and grateful for
their sponsorship, and hope that they will continue to support AUUG
in the days to come.

For those who need some sustenance before the meeting, you will
find kindred AUUG spirits at "Everybody's Restaurant" near White
Hall. Drop in any time after 5:30pm to sit around and chew the fat
(and pepperoni). This is a chance for folks to get together and
exchange rumors, ideas, assistance, etc.
