Most of the US Southwest was once part of Mexico. | We got it from the mexicans 170 years ago by doing what they are doing | back to us today - sending settlers illegally into the other's | territory. | | This is not a new struggle, and not a new method of fighting. | At the end of the day, we did start it... | | I wonder if we could get away with just annexing all of Mexico and | making several new states from it... | And before the Spanish was the French, and before the French was Los Indios. The Anglos colonized Texas under a grant from the Mexican government to Stephan F. Austin. The Mexican government forbade emmigration to Texas later on. Here is a time line for Texas: http://www.lsjunction.com/events/events.htm And, here is another pointing out that the settlement of Texas was encouraged by the Spanish and the later Mexican Government: http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/database/article_display.cfm?HHID=312 -- Jarhead
