Most of my work is site plans
for commercial sites, i.e., one building on an acre or so. Other typical
jobs are apartments and subdivisions. I need some relief on grinding the
jobs out. I could spend all day every day going to job sites, meeting
clients, communicating with the county, city, and getting the jobs rolling,
etc. The ideal situation I would like to have is this:
I would get the job, do the layout (sometimes rough, sometimes
specific), maybe do some schematic grading to let the CAD tech see what
I want the final product to look like, and send it via e-mail to the tech
to get rolling. He would then send me daily (or as needed) files showing
progress (mainly so I would know the job status for responding to the
client). He would have my title block, details, etc., so the product would
look the same as I am used to producing. I would then plot and print the
job and take it to the county for review. I might make final changes or
might send them back to the tech.
Most jobs would be of short duration. I would prefer someone who
has Terramodel (that's what I have), but AutoCAD is okay since I can
transfer them back and forth, either DWG or DXF. The problem with me having
work done on AutoCAD is (I think) that some things do not transfer over
without a hassle. Also, things like arrowheads, symbols and linetypes in
the two systems are different. If I added lines with arrowheads, for
instance, the job would then have two different kinds of arrowheads on it.
Maybe there's a way around these problems. Seems like I learn some new
trick every day.
If I found someone that could be dependable and good, I might even
buy them the software they need to work on at home. I would prefer to work
out a lump sum fee for different type jobs. I suppose I'm looking at paying
something like $500 per job (I would have to give them a 1099 at the end of
the year).
