At approximately 5:30pm today, I entered Pets Anonymous
on Medlock Road at Scott and North Decatur. I was interested
in purchasing equiment for my two pet guinea pigs.
I saw approximately twenty guinea pigs in three bins.
Most were listless and squinting. A female pig with
three nursing young was so thin that all down her
body I could easily feel each rib and bone in her spine.
There was no food in the bin, either, as would be consistent
with restoring the health of a skin-and-bones nursing
animal.
Many of the pigs were missing large patches of hair and
had sores on their bare skin. Most had thin hair rather
than a healthy coat. I do not claim to be a vet or an
animal health expert, but common sense would tell anyone
that these are not healthy animals.
I will be boycotting Pets Anonymous ("Your Hobby Is Our
Obsession").
